Parent/Teacher Conferences
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit with me for Parent/Teacher conference on your child’s progress. Thanks to you, I was able to achieve 100% attendance by meeting with all ELP families that are served at the south end! So thanks again for your extra efforts!
Contests
As of our last publication of our ELP newsletter, I had yet to determine the poster contest winners for the south end ELP for the Conservation Departments push on soil and water conservation. Our winners were as follows:
5th Grade – Anna from Prairie Creek and Angelynn from Sunflower Elementary.
4th Grade – Casey from Prairie Creek and Evan from Meadowlark.
Vocabulary
Over the last two weeks we have been learning some new vocabulary using Vocabulary Cartoons. This is a technique that teaches the students to hook a word they need to learn with a word they know in a comical cartoon. It is a great memory mnemonic for acquiring new vocabulary. The students have learned, used, reviewed, and tested over all ten words with success. These ten words are now being expected to be used in their writing both within ELP and in the regular classroom. The words were: awe, nimble, solitude, summit, façade, robust, fruitful, occupant, armada, and unruly.
Tanglers
Tanglers are puzzles that are solved as a group. No one person has enough information to solve the puzzle alone. This encourages the students to recognize that to be successful, you must consider the clues that everyone has and to work together. The students really enjoyed using their creative thinking to work together on these puzzles.
Enrichment Opportunities
Two possible enrichment opportunities were shared this week either through e-mail or by paper (which should be attached to this newsletter). Please feel free to contact me if you need any assistance with completing the forms and need verification of your child’s eligibility status as gifted. I would be happy to get any necessary signatures or information.
